SINGING SISTERS

March 29, 2015

This Sunday President Poulsen introduced a new way for the Sisters to approach ''Announcing'' after Music and the Spoken Word.  As the crowd exited the Tabernacle this morning Sisters were singing   hymns.  As the crowd gathered and after the Sisters sang a couple of hymns they began their announcing.  The crowd lingered to hear the sisters announce tours in their native language.  After announcing one time the sisters were prepared to take our Temple Square Visitors on a tour. This new procedure for announcing allowed the Sisters to take advantage of inviting more people to take a tour of Temple Square.

PRE-EASTER WEEK AT TEMPLE SQUARE

March 27, 2015 -

Bob is our famous 'missionary' who has been coming to Temple Square for the past 14 years.  Sister Lunddahl had the thought of making him a name tag since he has been doing so much missionary work the past years.  He is always willing to help out and brings us joy when he comes by in his wheel chair.  Today, we gave him his nametag and a little something more.  He got very excited! We all love Bob.

Sister Lunddahl shares her creative talents in many ways.  Check out our Spring bulletin board.

This Easter season gives each of us a personal opportunity to discover His sacrifice, embrace His teachings, and share His joy.  ''Because He Lives'' video can be viewed, shared and downloaded beginning March 28 from HeLives.mormon.org in 21 languages.  The website also provides a day-by-day recounting of the last week of the Savior's life.

IPAD DISTRIBUTION CONTINUES AT TEMPLE SQUARE........

Last week we distributed ipads to the zone leaders and today our District Leaders were able to receive them.  In the next couple of days Temple Square mission will have ipads as a resource tool to teach the gospel on Temple Square and to their investigators.  Everyone is so excited to make use of this tool.  Of course, it all begins with setting it up so sisters were given instructions to set up their ipads and afterwards they all engaged in a short tutorial on its use as a missionary tool.

IPADS COME TO TEMPLE SQUARE

March 19, 2015

For Relief Society today Sisters Gearheart and Mathias sang ‘’A Child’s Prayer’’ for our opening song. Sister Mathias sang her part in German.

Our AP’s, Sisters Jin and Bomgren and also Sisters Arrieto and Hirro gave us training on how to more effectively use ‘’Meet the Mormons’’ in our proselyting efforts.  We discussed 1) how to introduce the movie more effectively, 2) Discussed Teaching ideas and 3) Invitation ideas.  It was pointed out by Sister Jin that missionaries are the way Heavenly Father makes appointments with his children so we want to be effective in our work with His children.

After their presentation we had mission wide Fleet training which comes every third transfer and is done by Elder and Sister Bradshaw and our Fleet sisters: Sisters Haight and Huang.

Right after this meeting we had a condensed version of Elder Clarkes presentation on the use of ipads in our mission.  Today's training was for sisters who were outbound when the presentation was given by Elder Clarke and also for new sisters from the MTC this last transfer.  Elder Bradshaw did Guideline Training for the use of ipads as a tool for missionaries in their proselyting efforts and President Loos used the Missionary Handbook to emphasize the importance of obeying rules concerning the use of the ipads as a mission tool.  President Poulsen concluded the training by emphasizing that we need to be the master and not a slave to our ipads or for that matter, the use of any technology.  When we use technology we should approach it with a purpose in mind for its use.  The training we received today and with Elder Clarke should be training for a lifetime of use concerning technology.

The ipad rollout will address the following: 1) Personal Use 2) Area Book and Planner 3) Social Media.

MISSION ZONE CONFERENCE

March 12th/13th

Thursday and Friday this week was Zone Conference held at the Salt Lake Stake Center on West Temple. The theme of the conference was the atonement of Jesus Christ.  President Poulsen taught the basics of the atonement to the sister missionaries some of whom were members of the church for a little over a year.  Lunch was served each day.  Our senior couple Elder and Sister Burton were in charge of the meals for this zone conference.  It was a spiritually edifying and uplifting experience for all who attended.

WEDNESDAY BREAD DAY

March 11, 2015

Thanks to the generosity of Kneaders located in City Creek Mall, Salt Lake City most of the sister missionaries on Temple Square look forward to Wednesday because it is ''bread'' day.  Two sister missionaries retrieve the cart from the SVC kitchen that they will wheel over to Kneaders to obtain the delicious breads they use to make sandwiches. Temple Square Mission receives breads of all kinds:  whole wheat, sourdough, white, potato rosemany, asiago cheese to name a few.  Kneaders is very generous in their offerings and we like it so much that it is usually all gone right after lunch.  We appreciate the sisters who perform this service for us.  Today it was sisters Atchu and Dicent.  Thank you Kneaders for your generosity!!

Today is mission wide transfer day!!  It's a beehive of activity around Temple Square with missionaries coming, going and receiving new assignments.  Fleet Sisters Huang and Haight, and Elder and Sister Bradshaw are very busy orchestrating the arrival of 22 sisters from the MTC and the departure of 41 sisters (11 going outbound).  Beginning at 2:30am and until 9pm there will be outbound sisters returning from their 12 weeks stateside mission, new sister missionaries coming from the MTC and our wonderful Temple Square sisters departing for home.  At transfer time companionships change as well as responsibilities and the apartment they will reside in for the next six weeks will also change.  Indeed, a very busy and exciting time.
